Ahn Hyo Seop has opened up about his career in the Korean entertainment industry. Before becoming an actor, he trained at JYP Entertainment alongside members of GOT7.
The star of the Korean drama "Business Proposal" was even contacted directly by a JYP Entertainment representative. Not as an auditionee, but as a standout student at his school in Canada.
During high school, Ahn Hyo Seop was an active member of the orchestra. He frequently performed on stage as a violist. Ahn Hyo Seop admitted to having been studying the instrument since he was in the fourth grade.
"I just found out later, there are a number of Asians at my school and they were looking for someone with potential, I think my name was mentioned," said the actor while appearing as a guest star on Fairy Jaehyung's YouTube show on Sunday (April 26, 2026).
Ahn Hyo Seop didn't deny that he was initially skeptical, thinking the offer was a scam. That was until the JYP Entertainment casting team finally sent him a plane ticket to South Korea. However, after three years of intense K-Pop trainee life, Ahn Hyo Seop had to stop.
He called his father and apologized, worried about disappointing him. "I was kicked out because my skills weren't good enough. I would have eliminated myself too. Because I might be able to sing.
But dancing..." said Ahn Hyo Seop, revealing the difficulty of learning K-Pop song choreography. "Actually, I really love music. I really love music. But after practicing over and over again as if it were my job, I had a strong feeling that I would hate music.
From then on, I decided that music would just be part of my hobby," he explained. Six months later, Ahn Hyo Seop tried his luck as an actor. He passed a casting call at his first agency, Starhaus Entertainment, which also housed Lee Min Ho at the time.
Ahn Hyo Seop is now known as an actor who regularly stars in romantic comedies. Fans can witness his transformation into a village farmer in the Korean drama "Sold Out On You," which premieres on Netflix on April 22, 2026.
