The alleged military service violation case involving popular South Korean idol Song Mino has once again drawn public attention. Prosecutors are seeking a one-year and six-month prison sentence for the Winner member in the first hearing held on Tuesday (April 21, 2026).
The charges were filed at the first conference, which also included another party identified as Lee, known to be responsible for managing Song Mino's service period. Both were accused of violating the Military Service Act and other related provisions.
Citing a Soompi report on Wednesday (April 22, 2026), during the trial, prosecutors found that Song Mino had failed to properly fulfill his duties as a public service worker. He was said to have frequently been absent without permission for extended periods of time.
"Based on the findings, the defendant appears to have been absent without permission for a long period of time and has not carried out his actual duties," the prosecutor said in court. Furthermore, prosecutors also revealed that Song Mino allegedly failed to perform his duties optimally while at the work site.
He was reportedly only there for a short time and spent most of his time resting or playing games before leaving. Previously, Song Mino was indicted for alleged negligence in fulfilling his duties as a public service worker. In the indictment, prosecutors stated that he was absent for a total of 102 days.
By comparison, a public service worker's service period in South Korea lasts 21 months, with approximately 430 effective working days. If the allegations are proven, the " Really Really Really" singer would allegedly have failed to fulfill his duties for nearly a quarter of his total service period.
This case has sparked widespread attention in South Korea, given that military service is a strictly enforced law for all male South Korean citizens. In addition to impacting their personal image, the case also has the potential to impact Winner's reputation and plans for a comeback in the K-Pop industry.
