Ji Chang Wook has become the latest subject of a tax scandal. His name was named in an irregular tax audit by the National Tax Service last March 2026. Field News reported that Ji Chang Wook was ordered to pay billions of won, or several million dollars, due to the audit results.
The actor's agency, Spring Company, immediately issued a statement regarding the news. "Hello, this is Spring Company. First, we sincerely apologize for causing public concern with this incident.
However, we would like to clarify that there was no intentional tax evasion through dishonest means," Spring Company said. The agency claimed to have submitted various appropriate documents for tax payments. Upon inspection, discrepancies emerged between the company's and the tax authorities' income figures.
"Despite these differences in results, we respect the findings of the National Tax Service as Ji Chang Wook complied with all tax procedures and regulations without any issues and has always made fulfilling his tax obligations a priority since his debut in 2008," the agency explained.
"Therefore, we plan to immediately pay the penalty tax imposed, in accordance with applicable procedures," agency said. The agency also revealed that in the future they will monitor and review before paying taxes to avoid discrepancies in figures that cause problems.
This news circulated while Ji Chang Wook was promoting his latest film, Colony, which reached 3 million viewers in South Korea. Ji Chang Wook will also star in several dramas, namely The Scandal, Merry Berry Love, Human X Gumiho, and Men of the Harem.
