South Korean actor Seo Kang Joon has been revealed to have turned down an offer to join SM Entertainment. Before entering the acting world, he successfully passed a trainee audition to become a K-pop idol. 

Seo Kang Joon shared the story during a conversation with Jung Jaehyung. In the video, shared on Fairy Jaehyung's YouTube channel on Sunday (September 6, 2026), Seo Kang Joon shared his story of attending an impromptu SM Entertainment audition with a friend.

The star of the Korean drama "Boyfriend on Demand" initially pursued a modeling career, following his mother's advice during high school. Seo Kang Joon eventually had the opportunity to appear in two runway shows. 

However, after that performance, Seo Kang Joon began to reconsider his desire to become a model. Throughout his training, Seo Kang Joon felt that modeling wasn't his calling. An unexpected opportunity came. 

In his final year of high school, Seo Kang Joon successfully auditioned for SM Entertainment with a friend. He was the only one to pass. The 32-year-old actor then revealed the reason he rejected SM Entertainment's offer to join and undergo his trainee period. 

After SM Entertainment contacted Seo Kang Joon's family, his mother, who was against the idea of ​​her son becoming a KPop idol, said, "My son is not interested in that." Seo Kang Joon finally realized that he had no talent or desire to pursue his singing and dancing skills. 

Meanwhile, Seo Kang Joon is preparing to make his comeback with the Korean drama "A Love Other Than Yours" alongside Ahn Eun Jin. This romantic drama tells the love story of a couple who have been dating for 10 years. 

While planning their wedding, they begin to experience emotional changes and drift apart. The latest episodes of A Love Other Than Yours are scheduled to air Saturdays and Sundays at 9:20 PM KST on KBS2 and on Prime Video.
