Chinese tech giant Huawei has launched the P50E and Nova 9 SE in its home country as the latest addition to its P-series and Nova-series of smartphones. The P50E starts at CNY 4,088 (roughly Rs. 49,000) while the Nova 9 SE costs CNY 2,199 (around Rs. 26,000) for its base variant. The smartphones will be available for purchase in China from March 24 onward.
Huawei is slowly but gradually trying to regain its lost popularity in the mobile space after the US administration put the company on a trade ban, disallowing it to use Google's services as well as chipsets and components from Qualcomm and Intel, among other US companies. The latest offerings, the P50E and Nova SE 9, will mostly be available in China.
The Huawei P50E has a 6.5-inch Full-HD+ (1224x2700 pixels) OLED display with a 300Hz touch sampling rate and 90Hz refresh rate. The Nova 9 SE has a 6.78-inch Full-HD+ (1080x2388 pixels) TFT LCD screen with a touch sampling rate of 270Hz and a 90Hz refresh rate. The former has an in-display fingerprint sensor, while the latter gets a side-mounted fingerprint scanner.
In terms of optics, the Huawei P50E flaunts a 50MP main camera, a 13MP ultra-wide snapper, and a 12MP periscope telephoto camera with 5x optical zoom. Up front, it has a 13MP shooter. The Nova 9 SE sports a 108MP primary camera, an 8MP ultra-wide sensor, a 2MP depth sensor, and a 2MP macro snapper. For selfies and video calls, it features a 16MP camera on the front.
Under the hood, the Huawei P50E is fueled by an octa-core Snapdragon 778G processor and runs on HarmonyOS 2. The Nova 9 SE is powered by an octa-core Snapdragon 680 SoC and boots EMUI 12 baked on top of Android 11 OS out of the box. Both the handsets come with 8GB of RAM and 128GB/256GB of onboard storage. They pack 4,100mAh and 4,000mAh batteries, respectively, with 66W fast-charging support.
In China, the Huawei P50E costs CNY 4,088 (Rs. 49,000) for 8GB/128GB variant and CNY 4,488 (Rs. 54,000) for 8GB/256GB model. It comes in Galaxy Blue, , Cocoa Gold, Obsidian Black, and Snow White colors. The Nova 9 SE costs CNY 2,199 (Rs. 26,400) for 8GB/128GB model and CNY 2,399 (Rs. 29,000) for 8GB/256GB variant. It is offered in shades of Crystal Blue, Midnight Black and Pearl White.
