Poco is reported to be planning for the release of a new C-series budget smartphone. The phone is said to be called the Poco C40 and will likely be a Poco C31 successor. While Poco has released entry-level phones in the past, it has restricted it to rebranding Redmi smartphones.
The Poco C40 is reported to be powered by a processor that will neither be from Qualcomm nor from MediaTek. It is said to be a budget chipset JR510 which has usually been seen in low-powered smartphones from a not-so-popular brand called Treswave. It means the exact performance level is hard to guess.
The second interesting bit about the phone is related to the software experience. The alleged Poco 40 will reportedly ship with the MIUI Go version. It appears to be a special MIUI version meant for low-powered smartphones. It is similar to how Google's Android Go edition software works but we do not know on what Android version it will be based.
Chinese tech company, Xiaomi is yet to comment on the existence of the software but its reference aka IS_MIUI_GO_VERSION was spotted within the main MIUI source code. Some of the previous reports claimed to be a rebranded version of the Redmi 10C. It is a smartphone that went official in Nigeria exactly a month ago.
Under the hood, the Poco C40 is powered by the Qualcomm Snapdragon 680 coupled with 4GB of RAM, The onboard storage options are 64GB and 128GB. In terms of optics, there is a 50-megapixel primary sensor and a 5-megapixel front camera. The battery capacity of the smartphone is 5,000mAh.
