Besides being famous as the super leader of the BTS group, Kim Namjoon alias RM is also very well known as an art lover. In every spare time, RM BTS is known to always take the time to visit museums and art sites, both traditional and modern. Because of his love for art, to celebrate his birthday which falls on September 12.
Every year RM always sets aside his wealth to donate to things related to local arts and culture. Launching Koreaboo, recently the Overseas Cultural Heritage Foundation shared that RM BTS recently donated 100 million won (Rp 1 billion) for the preservation, restoration, and utilization of Korean cultural assets , especially paintings, in major museums and art galleries around the world.
The donation will also be used to create a catalog that introduces Korean painting. The foundation, which RM has trusted, plans to start producing catalogs of Korean paintings scattered in important museums and art galleries in every country after consulting with painting experts and parent institutions.
In September last year, it turned out that RM also secretly made a donation of the same amount, which is 100 million won (Rp 1 billion) to preserve and restore Korean cultural assets. The donation was used to preserve and restore the Joseon Dynasty Hwa-Ot (a ceremonial dress worn by a princess in the Joseon Dynasty) at the Los Angeles County Museum of Art (LACMA) in the United States.
Reportedly, there are only about forty Hwa-Ot of the Joseon Dynasty left, thirty of whom are in Korea and ten are overseas. On his 27th birthday which falls in September 2020, RM also donated to the preservation, revival, and development of art, which is again worth 100 million won (Rp1 billion) through the National Museum of Contemporary Art and Culture Foundation.
RM also sponsors the production of books that are difficult to obtain and need to be republished. Thanks to RM's support, a total of 4,000 books have been printed and donated to 400 public libraries nationwide and distributed to schools from primary to secondary levels, including school libraries in mountainous areas.
Whereas in 2019, RM donated 100 million won (Rp 1 billion) to the Seoul Samsung School, a special school for deaf students. RM hopes that his donation can help students with hearing impairments to enjoy the art of music in various ways.
