EXO's Chen revealed the story behind his new album, “ Last Scene ”, through a live broadcast on his channel and TikTok @ EXO on November 14. He started his story during a meeting with the director regarding the music video he wanted. Because the jacket photo from his album tells about himself 24 hours, from morning to morning, so Chen wanted his music video to also be about someone all day long.
In the 4 minute 32 second video, a man can be seen driving a car during the day. The return of the owner's full name Kim Jongdae as a soloist certainly surprised EXO-L (EXO fans). In fact, there were fans who wrote during the live broadcast that Chen didn't give them any spoilers at all. "I am not sure. How to give spoilers? I'll think again. Spoilers are really hard.”
After sharing the story behind the music video, Chen then turned to the topic of album design. He admitted that he took part in the process of the physical album this time. “I wanted my first, second, and third mini albums to be in book form. It will mean a lot to me," he said. Chen also continued that he hopes that his compilation album can become a book series because he loves the concept of books like this.
Then, when he heard the word “Last Scene”, Chen felt a sense of loneliness. Thus, purple and gray occurred to him as the colors of the album. Then, when he took pictures on the beach. Chen also admitted that it was a little difficult because when he started to sit on the chair, the chair sank into the sand. The chair was also exposed to sea water.
However, when he saw the result, he felt that the photo at that time had a lonely feel. Thus, he was satisfied. After talking about the two photobook versions of “Last Scene”, Chen moved on to the digipack version. Seeing that, he felt like it was the first time seeing an album version like this.
Even though it has a more minimalist look, Chen was surprised because the contents of this digipack album are quite a lot. Starting from folded posters, lyric paper, photo cards, CDs, and photo books in smaller sizes. Finally, talking about the b-sides in “Last Scene”, Chen confessed that all of the songs are based on his experiences and emotions.
“First of all, I want myself to feel comfortable. We've grown busy. That's what I thought. So, I want to make listeners comfortable. These songs are mostly my stories. I thought, which story of mine should I show.” That's the story behind Chen's third mini album, "Last Scene", which is summarized from the @EXO channel.
