Former BIGBANG member Seungri is currently serving prison time for his involvement in the Burning Sun case. However, the former idol is rumored to be free this weekend. Previously, the South Korean Supreme Court sentenced Seungri to 1 year and 6 months in prison for a number of crimes.
These include illegal prostitution, illegal gambling abroad, distribution of illegal sexual content, and embezzlement. Seungri was found guilty on all charges and sentenced to 3 years in prison. But after appeal, the sentence was reduced to 1.5 years. After serving his sentence, Seungri is scheduled to be released from prison on February 11, 2023. This naturally shocked the Korean public.
Many felt that Seungri's sentence was too light for such a serious case. Many then worried that the former BIGBANG member would immediately return to the world of entertainment. "Humans will never change. Don't forget what he has done," said one netizen. "He should have left Korea and lived abroad," added another. "He should be jailed for another 3 years," continued another netizen.
The ex-BIGBANG Seungri case started with a beating incident in January 2019 at the Burning Sun nightclub. Seungri is the executive director of the nightclub, so his name is dragged along. Shortly after, a photo of Seungri circulated with a woman from China and was suspected of taking drugs.
The problem got worse when the investigation found conversations between Seungri and his employees looking for prostitution for foreign clients. The investigation into the chat group also brought up the names of a number of idols such as Jung Joon Young to Choi Jong Hoon who are known to often send illegal sex videos in the group. This made Seungri, including other artists, decide to leave the world of entertainment.
