Earlier this year, Kyoungyoon was swept up in controversy due to her relationship with JMS which was highlighted in the Netflix documentary 'In The Name of God: A Holy Betrayal'. The documentary depicts how the cult leader, convicted rapist Jung Myung Seok, abused and sexually exploited his many young female followers.
After news broke of his parents' affiliation with the cult, Kyoungyoon came forward to talk in detail about his experiences growing up with the religion without knowing the dark practices going on behind the scenes. He also emphatically stated that upon learning of what had happened, he had left the church for good.
On April 19, 2023, DKZ's agency released a statement regarding the group's scheduled appearance at the Cultwo Show in Boseong on April 29. The agency stated that according to the organizers of the event, some Boseong residents had repeatedly filed complaints requesting that DKZ's appearance be cancelled.
And as a result, Kyungyoon will be absent from the event. The agency also announced that due to anxiety stemming from the recent controversy, Kyoungyoon will temporarily halt all activities to focus on recovering his health. “Kyoungyoon feels great responsibility for the issues related to him, and he is currently undergoing therapy and treatment.
His doctors have diagnosed her with panic disorder causing social anxiety disorder, and for the time being she will focus completely on her treatment and stability,” the agency wrote. Five hours later, Dongyo Entertainment followed up with a new statement announcing that DKZ's appearance at the Cultwo Show in Boseong had been canceled in its entirety.
“There were changes regarding DKZ's five-piece Cultwo Show appearance on April 29 that we discussed in our previous statement, so we are making corrections. [DKZ's] appearance at the Cultwo Show in Boseong that was scheduled for April 29 has finally been cancelled," the agency said.
