Ahead of the comeback of the third mini album titled ' My World ' which will be released on May 8, 2023, aespa shared video tracks for a number of b-side songs from the mini album. Quoting from the aespa Official YouTube channel, on Wednesday May 3, 2023, right at midnight the video track for the song 'I'm Unhappy' was shared to increase the curiosity of fans.
The video track, which lasts about two minutes and twenty-eight seconds, successfully surprised fans with the dark concept that was displayed. Opening with a scene where Winter looks scared and runs down the school halls as if someone is chasing her, the track video for the song 'I'm Unhappy' displays images of the difficulties and struggles of the aespa members in their social life.
Winter, Giselle, and Ningning appear as school students who are trapped in a difficult social life. Starting from Winter who looks like a victim of violence from other students, Giselle who looks alone and has no friends, to Ningning who becomes a cheerleader who looks unhappy.
Meanwhile, Karina seems trapped in a room similar to a mental hospital, expressing herself that is closed off from the outside world. As the title of the song describes the dark and unhappy side, the four members of aespa end up struggling and running from the circumstances around them. Even though they seem to be being chased by many people and they are afraid they keep running and trying to find true happiness.
The lyrics of the song say 'I'm so happy' at the end of the video track hinting at the members' success in getting out of the unhappy situation that has been holding them all this time. Meanwhile, the song 'I'm Unhappy' is a pop genre song with minimal tracks and dreamy vocals.
