2PM's Taecyeon is a K-Pop idol who is currently having a solid career as an actor. Making his acting debut in 2010 through the Korean drama "Cinderella's Stepsister", Taecyeon slowly began to establish his name as one of the South Korean actors to be reckoned with.
Until now, Taecyeon has starred in many popular Korean drama titles, including "Dream High", "Who Are You", "Save Me", "The Game: Towards Zero", "Vincenzo", "Blind", and many more. Again. The roles and characters he plays are diverse, proving his wide acting spectrum. Currently, Taecyeon is starring in the new romantic comedy drama "Heartbeat".
He plays the role of a half-vampire named Seon Woo Hyeol. In order to promote his new drama, Taecyeon recently guested on the DIVE Studios' Daebak Show hosted by Eric Nam. Hosts Eric Nam and Taecyeon talked about everything related to acting, from his first role in the drama "Cinderella's Stepsister" to the dream role Taecyeon wants to play.
"You probably already do. What is something you haven't done but you really want to do?" asked Eric Nam as quoted from Koreaboo on Wednesday July 12, 2023. Taecyeon explained that he had wanted to play the antagonist because his former agency, JYP Entertainment , would not allow it.
They wanted Taecyeon to maintain a clean K-Pop idol image. "They (JYP Entertainment) don't let me do an antagonist. They forbid me from playing a villain. I have to have a clean and good image. I can be a rebel character, but I can't be a bad character like a serial killer.
So, that's one the only role I wanted to play when I changed agencies," said Taecyeon. Taecyeon also admitted that he understood why JYP Entertainment had strict limits for him regarding the role he had to take. If he plays a bad character, he will potentially receive hate, which will then affect the group 2PM.
In 2018, Taecyeon officially left JYP Entertainment and signed a contract with a new agency, 51K. This also opened up new opportunities for him, and he was finally able to book his dream role. In 2021, he played the main antagonist in the Korean drama Vincenzo, namely as the psychopath and serial killer Jang Jun Woo/Jang Han Seok.
"During the filming of the drama Vincenzo, I did several villain roles, so I was very happy and lucky to have that role as one of my works in a drama project," said Taecyeon. That's the latest information about 2PM's Taecyeon who was banned from playing the bad character, but finally his wish came true and he managed to get the role of the antagonist.
