Shocking news came from supermodel Gigi Hadid who was arrested with her friend, Leah McCarthy, for possession of marijuana. This incident occurred when Gigi was on vacation in the Cayman Islands, United Kingdom last weekend. On July 18, 2023, the news of the arrest of the world model was first reported by the local Cayman Island newspaper, Cayman Mal Road.

Gigi Hadid and her best friend were arrested after the private jet carrying them landed at the General Aviation Terminal at Owen Roberts International Airport from the United States on July 10. The two were immediately secured by customs officers at the airport when they were carrying out inspections.

The 28-year-old model was arrested with evidence in the form of marijuana and smoking devices found in her luggage. "Customs & Border Control officers passed his bag through the scanner and searched it by hand, finding small amounts of marijuana and inhalation equipment," read a TMZ statement on Wednesday, July 19, 2123.

The mother-of-one was then taken to a detention center in the local city on charges of importing cannabis to consume it. However, exactly two days later, Hadid and her friend were released after undergoing legal proceedings at the Summary Court and were subject to a fine of US$1,000.

Gigi Hadid's acquittal was due to possession of marijuana legally purchased according to medical advice in New York.  Quoting from E! News, Zayn Malik's ex-lover said his narcotics possession case had ended well. "Everything is fine. Everything has ended well," Gigi Hadid said as quoted by E! News.

A representative for Gigi Hadid's party also gave a supportive statement that the model did not need to end up being arrested over the marijuana problem. "Gigi travels with marijuana (cannabis) legally purchased in New York City along with a medical license.

It's also legal for medical use in Grand Cayman since 2017. She's enjoying the rest of her time on the island," he told ET in an interview. Even so, with the case of the arrest that just happened to him, the owner of the real name Jelena Noura Hadid also pleaded guilty to the behavior she made.
