Lee Min Ho returns to the big screen with the film Assassins. In this film, directed by Hur Jin Ho, he will play a rookie reporter named Young Il. Hive Media Corp. has officially released the first stills of Lee Min Ho in the period film.
The South Korean actor appears in two different situations, but with a similarly serious expression. In the first photo, Lee Min Ho, as Young Il, is seen at the Dongseong Ilbo news agency.
His hair is neatly styled, and he is wearing a white long-sleeved shirt with a brown tie, gray bottoms with a black belt. Young Il appears to be examining something on his desk. His workplace appears quiet, suggesting he's working overtime as a newcomer to the media industry.
In the second photo, Young Il stands out among the other journalists. He's standing in the field, intently observing his source. His hands are actively taking notes with a small notepad.
His expression was serious, displaying the determination of a journalist. Behind Young Il, photographers could be seen carrying cameras with large flashbulbs shining on the speaking subject.
The South Korean film Assassins tells the story of the shooting of the South Korean president on August 15, 1974. Someone attempted to assassinate the president while he was delivering a speech at an independence celebration ceremony. The shot missed, but killed the first lady.
An investigation is carried out to find the perpetrator of the shooting, involving senior police officer Cheol Gu (played by Yoo Hai Jin) from the Central Police Station, the head of the social column of the Dongseong Ilbo newspaper named Jae Hwan (played by Park Hae Il), and a new reporter named Young Il (played by Lee Min Ho).
Cheol Gu and Young Il witnessed the assassination attempt firsthand. Together with the newspaper's social section chief, they investigate the unanswered questions surrounding the incident.
But the investigation isn't going smoothly. They now face danger and pressure from various parties within their orbit. Filming for Assassins began on August 23, 2025, and concluded on August 14 of the same year.
The screenplay was written by Kwon Ki Joon and Lee Ji Min (The Man Standing Next, 2020). Director Hur Jin Ho, previously known for Five Senses of Eros (2009), is directing the film. Assassins is scheduled for release in September of this year.
