The romantic comedy drama, starring Lee Junho and Yoona, features the character of an Arab prince who is 'obscene' and gets drunk. This can be seen in the seventh episode of the Korean drama King the Land which aired on Sunday July 9, 2023.

The Indian actor also misses fans who saw his acting debut in the Korean drama Squid Game in 2021. In the Korean drama King the Land, Anupam Tripathi plays Prince Samir. He was wearing a thawb in the style of an Arab prince.
Despite displaying comical acting, his character was considered offensive to Arabs. When Lee Junho's character called Prince Samir to come to the King Hotel, he was seen at an alcohol bar surrounded by many women who touched him. JTBC's Instagram account was suddenly flooded with comments by Arab netizens who protested every upload regarding the Korean drama King the Land.

It is said that Prince Samir is a fictional character that is not meant to portray the prince of a particular country.
However, JTBC's statement made the King the Land audience's emotions even more explosive because it did not contain an apology. The station issued a second statement saying it had no intention of making fun of any culture. As a result, JTBC's statement became a topic of conversation on Korean community forums.
A number of Korean netizens felt that the King the Land production team had embarrassed South Korea in the eyes of the world and urged the television station to immediately apologize. On Wednesday July 12, 2023, JTBC finally admits to being wrong about the portrayal of the Arab Prince in the Korean drama King the Land.
JTBC also decided to edit scenes that were considered controversial. "We would like to express our deepest and sincere apologies for causing unnecessary inconvenience to our viewers without full consideration of other's valued cultures although we had no intention of parodying or distorting any particular country or culture in the process."
"We will thoroughly examine the parts of the video that are deemed problematic, and do our best to ensure that appropriate measures are taken. We solemnly promise viewers that more care will be taken so that there will be no inconvenience in viewing our content," said JTBC's statement as reported by the Instagram account @jtbcdrama.
