'The 8 Show' is a series about 8 people who are trapped in a secret room divided into 8 floors and participate in dangerous shows to earn money by collecting time. Director Han Jae Rim apparently adapted the webtoon 'Money Game' and 'Pie Game' by Bae Jin Soo to create a new story using the 'Money Game' theme.
“This is not a survival genre. I think this is a bit perverse. If this is a survival show, someone has to die. Someone has to die so someone else can live, but 'The 8 Show' didn't kill anyone off. That's why I don't want 'game' to appear in the title.

He continued, “Because there are 8 episodes and 8 characters, and money is time, so I thought of changing the title to 'The 8 Show' to describe the human desire to have unlimited time.
It was difficult for the original author to agree to the title change, but I am very grateful that he was willing to understand my decision.” Regarding 'The 8 Show' which is often said to be similar to 'Squid Game', Director Han Jae Rim denied this. He had been working on this project before 'Squid Game' was released, so the two series are unrelated.
“I decided to work on this project even before 'Squid Game' was released. "After 'Squid Game' did well, I even thought about stopping the project," said the director. He added, "I enjoyed watching 'Squid Game' but I didn't expect it to be as successful as it was.
At that time, only 'Money Game' was used and I felt the limitations of the survival genre. I found the rules of 'Pie Game' interesting so I came up with the idea for tells a story where no one dies.” He also explained that he was not affected by 'Squid Game'.
He wanted to find something different to present to viewers. "Looking at the reviews, I think people who expect something like 'Squid Game' don't find 'The 8 Show' interesting, but many people like this series because it's different from 'Squid Game'," said Director Han Jae Rim.
Regarding the differences between “The 8 Show” and “Squid Game”, the director emphasized, “Because the organizers of 'Squid Game' are portrayed as villains, the audience watches the drama comfortably without feeling guilty.
