Squid Game 2 successfully set a new record on Netflix after its premiere on December 26, 2024. The second season of the Korean series became the series with the highest number of viewers in its first week on Netflix. Squid Game 2 has recorded 68 million views in just four days of airing.
The number even surpasses the viewership of all Netflix original series. Squid Game 2 surpassed Wednesday's record of 50.1 million views when it aired in 2022. Meanwhile, Bridgerton Season 3 came in third with 45.1 million views.
Squid Game 2's debut viewership figures also surpassed its first season, Squid Game (2021), which earned 7.7 million. As reported by Variety on Tuesday December 31, 2024, Squid Game 2 is also included in the list of the most popular non-English language series of all time on Netflix, precisely at number 7.
The number is actually still far from the results of the first season of Squid Game which was at the top with 265.2 million views. However, Squid Game 2 still has a lot of time because the number will be accumulated during the first 91 days of airing.
This impressive achievement was achieved after many viewers had long been waiting for Gi-hun's (Lee Jung-jae) return to the deadly game. Squid Game 2's popularity skyrocketed after being continuously discussed on social media. Squid Game also announced that the third season of the series will air in 2025.
Netflix has also teased the appearance of another giant doll named Chul-su. The boy doll will accompany Young-hee in the new game in Squid Game 3. Squid Game 2 is the second season of the popular series Squid Game (2021).
This second season brings back various deadly games that are followed by hundreds of participants to get some cash. Lee Jung-jae returns as Seung Gi-hun, the winner and sole survivor of the game in the first season. Other supporting characters return, including Front Man (Lee Byung-hun) and The Recruiter (Gong Yoo).
The Squid Game 2 series also presents new actors, starting from Park Gyu-young, Choi Seung-hyun or TOP, Lee Jin-wook, Jo Yuri, Won Ji-an, to Kang Ae-sim. There are also Yim Si-wan, Kang Ha-neul, Park Sung-hoon, and Yang Dong-geun who were announced earlier.
