Do Kyung Soo, aka D.O., revealed his journey of adapting Taiwanese melodrama sensibilities for Korean audiences in the upcoming film Secret: Untold Melody. Speaking at a press conference held at Megabox COEX in Seoul on Tuesday, the EXO member-turned-actor shared, “I absolutely loved the original Taiwanese film.

So choosing this project was a natural decision for me.” Despite his background as a K-pop idol, Do admitted that his lack of piano skills presented a unique challenge. “My character Yoo Jun is a pianist, but truthfully, I don’t know how to play the piano,” he revealed.

“But I was drawn to the opportunity to portray someone who could play piano, and I hadn’t tried the romance genre in films before, so I wanted to give it a shot.” D.O. expressed satisfaction with his on-screen chemistry with co-stars Won Jin Ah and Shin Ye Eun, noting, “We clicked so well that filming flowed smoothly without any issues.”

In his first romantic lead role, the actor confessed to initially struggling with the film’s rather poetic dialogue. “Since this is a romance, I worried that lines like ‘I’ll play for you’ might make the audience cringe. However, I tried to understand it better by talking with Director Seo You Min. I think it came across well,” he shared.

Secret: Untold Melody is a fantasy romance that follows the magical moments that unfold when Yoo Jun and Jung Ah unexpectedly meet in a campus practice room with time-bending secrets. The film, based on the Taiwanese movie Secret, stars D.O., Won Jin Ah, and Shin Ye Eun in leading roles. The film is set to hit theaters on January 28, 2025.
