The police have officially started an investigation into the sexual harassment case committed by a fan against BTS's Jin. During BTS's Jin hug event last week, someone tried to kiss the musician who was born in 1992. This special event was held especially for ARMY to celebrate BTS's 11th debut anniversary as well as a celebration to welcome Jin who had just completed military service.
However, there was a fan who misused this opportunity so that it became a public conversation on social media. Chosun on Tuesday June 18, 2024 reported that the police had coordinated with HYBE and BigHit Music to ask for Jin's views and response to the incident.
They emphasized that the oldest member of BTS was a victim so the musician's statement would be important for the investigation process which was present due to the National Petition System's complaint regarding possible violations of the Sexual Violence Punishment Act.
"Even though the evidence of sexual harassment is clear, an investigation will begin if the victim testifies and states that he has experienced sexual harassment," said the notification received by the reporter. This incident first emerged due to a fan's report in an online community that he had reported the person who tried to kiss Jin at the hug event to the Seoul Songpa Police Station.
The reporter wrote in the statement, "I report a violation of Article 11 of the Sexual Violence Punishment Law, 'harassment in a crowded place,' in the National Petition System." On Thursday June 13, 2024, the owner of the real name Kim Seok-jin held a special fan event entitled BTS FESTA with a hug session with 1,000 lucky ARMYs to welcome Jin's release from military service.
Even though many fans interacted with Jin politely, quite a few also tried to kiss the musician. The photos and videos show Jin's expression looking shocked and trying to look away so that the perpetrator fails to carry out his anarchic actions. ARMY on social media also asked BigHit Music to strictly prohibit this person from attending other BTS events to avoid a repeat of similar incidents in the future.
