International fans looking forward to director Ridley Scott's Gladiator 2 on the big screen will be able to enjoy it earlier than audiences in North America. Adapting from Collider on Thursday June 20, 2024, this long-awaited sequel will hit theaters on November 15, 2024 worldwide, while audiences in the US and Canada will have to wait until November 22, 2024.

The film features Paul Mescal as the new main character, playing the adult Lucius, nephew of Commodus (who was played by Joaquin Phoenix in the original film). The actor, who rose to fame through his role in Normal People , admitted that taking on the role in Gladiator and continuing the film's success was a tough challenge.

" I'm very excited, but it's hard not to feel pressured by the popularity of this film ," Paul Mescal told Esquire last year. " In my opinion, the script is very good and faithful to the originality of the first film, but I feel I can bring this character into a part of myself ," he continued.

Apart from Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington will join as a character who was once a slave but is now a wealthy trader. Connie Nielsen and Derek Jacobi will reprise their roles from the previous film, as Lucilla and Senator Gracchus respectively.

Joseph Quinn will play Emperor Caracalla, while Pedro Pascal will play a former military commander who was forced to become a gladiator after disobeying a direct order. May Calamawy from Moon Knight also joins the film. Released in 2000, Gladiator immediately recorded huge success among critics and audiences alike.

With box office receipts of over $460 million globally, the film was one of the biggest grossers of its time. Gladiator also made satisfying achievements at prestigious film events by winning five Academy Awards out of a total of 12 nominations it received.

The sequel has been long awaited and since last year, Ridley Scott along with the new cast have been working hard to bring back the greatness of this film. However, recently Russell Crowe revealed his dissatisfaction with the production process.

According to him, several concepts that he heard did not match the moral journey of the characters that had been strongly established in the first film. However, as an actor, he is aware that this decision is no longer his authority and he can only wait to see the final results of the production of this sequel.

Gladiator 2 is scheduled to begin screening in international cinemas on November 15, while audiences in North America will be able to enjoy it starting November 22, 2024. The official broadcast date in Indonesia has not yet been confirmed.
