BTS's Jin conducted his first interview with Weverse Magazine after leaving the military last June 2024. Recalling how emotional the farewell was on his discharge day, the interviewer said that Jin must have been a great senior soldier because apparently one of his juniors was crying hysterically.
He said, "It wasn't just that one person, the people in our barracks below me, and below them, and below them were all crying. Our entire barracks were crying." "Of course, people don't always cry, but they cry when good seniors leave.
For me, it's not about being a good senior, but more about being popular," he added with a laugh. Jin added, "We are all assistant drill sergeants, so there are not many of us. There are only 25 of us, and our barracks only accommodate six or eight people at a time."
"There was a guy who was only four years younger than me, and entered at the same time as Hobi (J-Hope), so it was only four months after I entered. We became really close over the course of 10 months." When asked what his secret was to being so popular, Jin replied, “I spend my military salary and then buy food for everyone,” and laughed.
"A lot of them are just 19 years old and have never had a job before, but I'm much more financially stable, so I'll say, 'You have to eat well to stay healthy. Come on, I'll treat you,' and pay for their meal." "I bought them so much fried chicken, jokbal and pizza that they got bored. I even invited people from other barracks to have a barbecue."
