The MCU has explored the Marvel universe several times and introduced the Nova Corps, but until now they have not brought in one of the biggest characters from the comics, Richard Rider aka Nova. However, that doesn't mean there is no effort to present Nova.
There are many rumors circulating that he will soon debut on the screen. Recently, ComicBook media got some clarity on Nova's future in the MCU. In an interview with Marvel Studios President Kevin Feige , it was confirmed that a project featuring Richard Rider is in development.
This project will be a TV series and is expected to air in the next 3 to 4 years. On the other hand, Brad Winderbaum, Marvel's head of streaming, animation, and television, also said that the Nova project is in the early stages of development.
He further revealed that Marvel Studios now has a new system behind the scenes that is more efficient. They are developing more projects than they will produce to ensure the best quality. Brad Winderbaum himself loves the Nova character, especially Richard Rider, and hopes this project can be realized.
Despite the many challenges in the production process, he is very eager to see the Nova series air one day. The character of Nova was actually planned to appear in Avengers: Infinity War. However, no matter how hard Christopher Markus and Stephen McFeely tried to fit him into the story, Nova ultimately did not appear.
This is quite surprising, considering that Nova also did not appear in the Guardians of the Galaxy films, even though the Nova Corps group often interacts with the Guardians. James Gunn admitted that he deliberately did not include Richard Rider's character in the Guardians of the Galaxy film. According to him, Nova is too significant a character.
From the beginning, James wanted there to be only one human character, Peter Quill (Star-Lord), among the aliens. This was decided to make Peter Quill look more unique and his alien world more tangible. So adding another human like Nova could take away from the uniqueness and dynamics he wanted to show in the film.
