Actor Wi Ha-joon has revealed the plot of Squid Game 2, which is scheduled to air in the second half of 2024. The actor claims that the second season of the Netflix hit series will offer a more enjoyable story than its predecessor.
He also said that Squid Game 2 will delve deeper into the story of Hwang Jun-ho's character, who is reprised by Wi Ha-joon. "It (Squid Game 2) will definitely be more exciting than the first one," said Wi Ha-joon, as reported by the Korea Times on Monday July 8, 2024.
"My character, Hwang Jun-ho, will have his own story here. So, I think the second season will be more fun and allow the character to develop a little bit and go deeper," he continued. Wi Ha-joon joined the series from the beginning as police officer Hwang Jun-ho, who is determined to find his brother who mysteriously disappeared.
Until one day, Jun-ho finds a clue after meeting Gi-hoon (Lee Jung-jae). Their meeting made him decide to sneak into the Squid Game area by disguising himself as a crew member wearing a red costume. When he met his brother, Jun-ho fell off a cliff after being shot.
The plot of the story has made the actor often express his desire for his character to return and be told in more depth in Squid Game 2. The director and scriptwriter, Hwang Dong-hyuk, finally fulfilled the wish and confirmed that Wi Ha-joon would return to play Jun-ho.
However, Wi Ha-joon also ensured that the excitement in Squid Game 2 will come from all the characters, including those who just joined in the second season. "More unique and interesting characters have joined.
All the stars are amazing actors who play their characters brilliantly," said Wi Ha-joon. Meanwhile, on Friday June 14, 2024, the production team confirmed that Squid Game 2 is entering the final stages before airing. All actors and teams even held a closing party on June 11 and 12, 2024.
Through Yoo Jae-suk's YouTube show on May 17, 2024, Lee Jung-jae as the main actor also revealed plans for the broadcast of Squid Game 2 which will fall in December 2024. Season 2 of the series will consist of six episodes, and season 3 is expected to have six to seven episodes.
