Despicable Me director Chris Renaud apparently has no intention of making a live-action version of the Minions film. He actually hopes that it doesn't happen. In an interview with Film Hounds magazine , Chris Renaud was asked if he would ever be interested in bringing the Minions characters from the animated world to a live-action film.

His answer was clear, he would prefer to keep the Minions in their original format. " Oh my gosh, I hope not. That's my answer. If there's any talk about it, I'm not involved. For me, what makes this world unique is the animation, which allows us to do things that are impossible to do, " said Chris Renaud, quoted on Monday August 19, 2024.

" For example, locking the Minions in a vending machine, or blowing up Gru when he attacks Vector. It's very cartoonish, similar to Bugs Bunny. If it were made into a live-action version, all of that would feel very different. For me personally, it's not that interesting.

But then again, who knows what could happen in the future? But that's my personal perspective ," he said further. It's not just Chris Renaud who feels that some stories are better told in animated format. Pixar's Pete Docter also said that he never thought about making a live-action version of Ratatouille.

This is because not all worlds in animation are easy to realize in that version. Chris Renaud has been part of the Despicable Me franchise since the beginning when he directed the first film alongside Pierre Coffin in 2010. Their collaboration continued with Despicable Me 2 in 2013, and Renaud also returned to direct the recently released Despicable Me 4 .

The film Despicable Me (2010) introduces us to a man in a black suit and a gray striped scarf named Gru. He is a supervillain who is ambitious to steal the moon. He has an army of Minions who help him in various evil plans. However, his life changes when he adopts three orphans, Margo, Edith, and Agnes.

Through his interactions with these children, Gru begins to feel love and care that makes him question his evil intentions. Meanwhile, Minions 3 will only be released on June 30, 2027. The film is directed by Pierre Coffin. He is working from a script written by Brian Lynch, the screenwriter of The Secret Life of Pets and also the screenwriter for the first Minions film in 2015.
