Netflix doesn't seem to be stopping its collaborations with South Korean filmmakers. In its latest plans, the platform is set to produce an original historical film titled Dochabi. Dochabi is planned to star Lee Joon Gi in the lead role.
MyDaily was the first South Korean media outlet to report this. Lee Joon Gi's management, Namoo Actors, has issued a clarification, confirming that the actor, who played in Moon Lovers: Scarlet Heart Ryeo (2016), has indeed accepted the offer.
"He has received an offer to appear on Dochabi and is positively considering it. No firm decision has been made at this time," they said. Dochabi can also mean 'goblin' in Korean. This Korean drama is set in the northern border region of Joseon (South Korea in the past).
The story centers on a character named Tae San. Tae San is written as a former military man living and hiding in the mountains. Lee Joon Gi was offered the role. The Dochabi project is planned to be directed by Ahn Tae Jin.
He was previously known for the film The Night Owl (2022), starring Ryu Jun Yeol, Choi Moo Sung, and Lee Sung Cheol. Ahn Tae Jin is also currently working on the sequel to the hit Korean drama Signal, Second Signal, whose broadcast date remains uncertain.
Although tvN has confirmed that the series will continue airing despite the controversy surrounding actor Cho Jin Woong. If Lee Joon Gi accepts Dochabi's offer, it will be a reunion with director Ahn Tae Jin.
The two were previously involved in the production of The King and the Clown (2005), in which Lee Joon Gi played the lead role and Ahn Tae Jin served as assistant director. Dochabi is scheduled to begin filming in August 2026.
