Lim Young Woong is being urged to give up his position as Pocheon City's public relations ambassador. This is the impact of the singer's controversy, which was considered apathetic to the current political situation in South Korea when replying to a netizen's DM. Young Woong's attitude is considered not in accordance with the requirements imposed on Pocheon City's PR ambassadors.

On Monday December 9, 2024, a netizen revealed that he filed a petition to the People's Daily in Pocheon City requesting that Young Woong be dismissed as a PR ambassador. The netizen who filed the petition said, “According to the Constitution, the Republic of Korea is a democratic republic, and sovereignty rests with the people, and all power comes from the people.

Lim Young Woong deserves praise for being a celebrity and making a good influence through donations, thus becoming an example for others. However, his statement saying ‘Am I a politician? Why should I speak up?’ in this very serious situation due to the president’s declaration of martial law can be interpreted as ‘only politicians can make political statements.’”

He added, “This directly violates the values of the Constitution and is therefore inappropriate. We must not ignore the fact that Lim Young Woong is currently able to maintain his social status as a trot singer because of the unwavering will and noble efforts of our ancestors to protect democracy.”

Another netizen said, “According to Article 5 (Dismissal) of the current Pocheon City Public Relations Ambassador Operation Ordinance, the mayor can dismiss an ambassador during his term if he falls into one of the following categories. We strongly urge Pocheon City to actively consider dismissing Lim Young Woong as a public relations ambassador, including by clearly determining the truth of DM Lim Young Woong’s statement.”

On the same day, a report surfaced that Pocheon City was considering dismissing Lim Young Woong as a public relations ambassador. Afterwards, a Pocheon City Hall official denied the rumors of the ambassador’s dismissal, stating, “We have never considered dismissing Lim Young Woong as a public relations ambassador, and it is not true.” It appears that the netizen filed a civil lawsuit in response.

Previously on the ladder; December 7, 2024, Young Woong was flooded with criticism because of his attitude in responding to the current political problems in South Korea. He seemed to ignore and was reluctant to interfere with the various political problems that occurred. Young Woong's attitude really disappointed the public. Until this article was released, Young Woong's agency, Fish Music, had not yet given a statement.

Meanwhile, an impeachment motion against President Yoon Suk Yeol was put forward for a vote at the plenary session of the National Assembly on the 7th, but was canceled due to insufficient quorum. The impeachment motion requires the approval of 200 members, or two-thirds of the 300 members present, but 105 members of the People Power Party did not participate in the vote.

As a result, only 195 members participated in the vote, and “invalid votes” were declared even before the votes were counted. The Democratic Party of Korea criticized the People Power Party for not participating in the vote and plans to hold a special session of the National Assembly on the 11th to re-promote the impeachment.
