Park Sung Hoon‘s Instagram follower count has skyrocketed following an accidental post featuring a shockingly explicit parody of Squid Game. The Squid Game Season 2 actor had 1.84 million followers on Instagram as of December 30, 2024, but his follower count surged to 1.94 million after the controversial post—a gain of 100,000 in less than 24 hours.

The spike reflects global curiosity about Park, one of the leading actors in Netflix’s Squid Game Season 2. The controversy began when Park posted a photo on Instagram that appeared to be the cover of a Japanese adult video styled with a Squid Game theme.

The image included explicit nudity, leading many to speculate that his account had been hacked. Although the post was quickly deleted, it still gained significant attention due to his large following. Park’s representatives later released a statement, explaining that the incident was a “mistake” and that Park had unintentionally shared an image sent to him by a follower through a direct message.

However, public reactions were divided. While some sympathized, noting that accidents happen, others were skeptical. Many argued that sharing such an image would still require multiple deliberate steps, making an accidental post unlikely.

Critics also questioned why Park had chosen to save such explicit material on his device in the first place. The timing of the incident worsened the backlash. It coincided with a national tragedy—the Jeju Air passenger plane accident—that left South Korea in mourning.

While other celebrities expressed condolences for the victims, Park’s explicit post was seen as especially insensitive. In the aftermath, calls are growing for Park to step down from his upcoming projects. He is set to star in the new tvN drama The Tyrant’s Chef (working title), scheduled to air in the second half of next year.

The drama follows the story of a chef who time travels to the past, where she encounters a king who is both the cruelest tyrant and the ultimate food enthusiast. The drama will be directed by Jang Tae Yoo, known for his work on hit series like My Love from the Star, Hyena, and Lovers of the Red Sky.

Earlier, Yoona of Girls’ Generation was offered the role of the chef. Public sentiment has been overwhelmingly negative, with many urging producers to replace him as the male lead. Some viewers expressed disinterest in seeing a romantic performance from an actor embroiled in controversy over inappropriate adult content.
