SHINee's Key was a guest star on tvN's "You Quiz on the Block" on February 12, 2025. Not alone, the idol was accompanied by his mother. They discussed the idol's career journey in the entertainment industry and related to family.
In the episode, Key shared his inner struggles since his debut. "The group is doing well, but I feel like I don't have a presence. It doesn't feel like my group," the idol, who was born in 1991, shared. During the interview, MC Jo Se Ho asked about Key's father's whereabouts.
"Although you have a lot of memories with your mother, is your father also present in your life?" the MC asked. Unexpectedly, Key answered yes. Key also revealed that people have misunderstood him because they think his father never existed. "Yes, many people sometimes misunderstand, but my father is here.
He is here," Key said. The idol also shared text messages with his father. In the revealed text, Key's father is seen sending a message that reads, "Beom-ah, last year was a great year for 'I Live Alone,' and this year, with the January episode, your status will increase significantly."
"If you appear on 'You Quiz' with mom this time, your popularity will skyrocket, especially at a time like this....," his father added. Key also received various words of encouragement from his father. On the other hand, Key's mother Kim Sun Hee, who recently retired after 37 years as a nurse, also revealed her carefully written parenting journal, which she has been writing since her son was born.
Through her heartfelt note, the mother hopes that Key can reflect on how much he has always been loved and gain strength from those memories. The episode will also feature never-before-seen childhood photos and a handwritten letter from a young Kibum, adding emotional depth to their story.
The episode also reveals the difficult moments that Key's family has gone through, including his mother's multiple heart surgeries and the challenges they have faced together. This has always been the greatest source of comfort for each other.
Adding to the special moments, Key also performed “Ring Ding Dong” for the first time on an empty floor in front of his mother, further highlighting their deep bond. Key reflected on his journey by sharing, “Family is my greatest asset,” in tribute to his mother’s unwavering dedication to her patients and her son.
