The family of the late Kim Sae Ron has reported Kim Soo Hyun to the police on charges of defamation. Now, the police have announced that they will continue their investigation into the "Queen of Tears" drama actor.
Acting Commissioner Park Hyun Soo of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Department held a regular press conference on March 24, 2025. There, Park Hyun Soo stated that an investigation into Kim Soo Hyun, regarding allegations of defamation of a deceased person, would begin in response to a report filed at the Gangnam Police Station on March 20, 2025.
Kim Hyun Soo added that an investigation will follow, including questioning the reporter. He also stated that the defamation investigation involving YouTuber Lee Jin Ho was handed over to the Seodaemun Police Station on March 17, 2025 and they are coordinating the questioning schedule with the reporter.
The case came to light after YouTube channel Garo Sero Research Institute released photos of Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron that they received from the actress' family. They claimed that the two actors had been in a relationship for six years, starting in November 2015, when Kim Sae Ron was actually a minor.
Kim Soo Hyun's side, GOLDMEDALIST initially denied the claims. However, after additional photos of the two were revealed, their stance changed. They admitted that the two did date, but when Kim Sae Ron was already an adult.
According to the police, a report regarding Kim Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron's alleged relationship was filed with the Gangnam Police Station on March 20, 2025 by the Garo Seo Research Institute. Meanwhile, the lawsuit against YouTuber Lee Jin Ho was filed by Kim Sae Ron's family's legal representative.
Since 2022, Lee Jin Ho has repeatedly uploaded videos on his YouTube channel denying the past romantic relationship between Soo Hyun and Kim Sae Ron. After Kim Kim Sae Ron was found dead at her home in Seongdong-gu, Seoul on February 16, 2025, Jin Ho made all of the videos private.
Kim Sae Ron's career took a hit after she was caught drunk driving in May 2022 in Sinsa-dong, Gangnam. She was fined 2 million won in court the following year. Kim Sae Ron was reported to have been struggling financially before her death, and she was found dead at her home, allegedly due to suicide.
Meanwhile, police also provided an update on the case related to singer Wheesung's death, revealing that a syringe was found near his body. They stated, "A post-mortem examination was conducted on March 12, 2025, and the initial cause of death is unknown. We are conducting further tests, and additional investigations will be conducted once the results are received."
