The premiere of the Korean drama "Perfect Crown" captured public attention. This royal fantasy drama showcased the visuals of IU and Byeon Woo Seok. However, the actor's acting skills drew criticism from some netizens.
As reported by Nielsen Korea, the first episode of Perfect Crown aired on Friday night (April 10, 2026) with a rating of 7.8%. This rating even increased the following day, reaching 9.5% for the second episode.
Unfortunately, many Perfect Crown viewers were disappointed by the performance of its lead actor, Byeon Woo Seok. He was deemed to have failed to live up to expectations after his viral star role in Lovely Runner in 2024.
In a viral community forum post, Korean netizens highlighted a scene where Grand Prince Ian (played by Byeon Woo Seok) argued with Queen Dowager Yoon Yi Rang (played by Gong Seung Yeon).
Unlike his co-star, who appeared furious, Byeon Woo Seok was deemed less expressive and appeared stiff. "Byeon Woo Seok's acting is so bad... Doesn't he have 10 years of acting experience?" commented a netizen on a Korean community forum.
"Seriously, I'm not a hater or anything, but I tried watching the drama and immediately turned it off..." wrote one netizen. "His expressions and even his smile look awkward. His intonation and way of speaking are too uniform in every scene.
There's no variation or emotion at all," said another netizen, who admitted to being disappointed with Byeon Woo Seok's performance. Meanwhile, the Korean drama Perfect Crown follows the love story of Grand Prince Ian (played by Byeon Woo Seok) and beauty brand CEO Seong Hui Ju (played by IU).
The two agree to a contract marriage driven by their ambition to improve their social status. With 12 episodes, the Korean drama Perfect Crown will air every Friday and Saturday at 9:50 PM KST on MBC. The latest episodes are available with English subtitle on Disney+ Hotstar.
