Kim Soo-hyun has filed a criminal and civil lawsuit against the family of the late Kim Sae-ron and the Garosero Research Institute over the scandal that has ensnared the actor for some time now. Kim Jong-bok, as the attorney for the Queen of Tears actor, revealed that his client is suing the late Kim Sae-ron's family for 12 billion Korean won.
"Based on his wishes, Kim Soo-hyun and Gold Medalist have filed with our law firm to investigate criminal and civil litigation in order to obtain the correct facts," said Kim Jong-bok, reported by the Korea JoongAng Daily on Monday March 31, 2025.
"We have filed a lawsuit against the victim's family and the operator of the Garosero Research Institute, as well as filing a lawsuit worth 12 billion won with the Central District Supreme Court," he continued. Kim Jong-bok then emphasized that his party could not hold a Q&A session regarding the lawsuit and a general press conference.
Because, the lawsuit has been filed by his client to enter the investigation. This also makes it impossible for his party to respond to certain issues during the investigation. He also asked the media to understand the situation they are facing. "The reason we cannot accept questions is because the criminal complaint is a case under investigation," Kim Jong-bok said.
"As Kim Soo-hyun and the agency's legal representative, we ask for the reporter's understanding on their behalf," he continued. The press conference also marked Kim Soo-hyun's first appearance. He appeared in connection with the scandal that has dragged him for some time. The actor born in 1988 was hit by controversy because of his romantic relationship with the late Kim Sae-ron.
"We dated with good feelings and after some time, we decided to break up," claimed Kim Soo-hyun. "After that, we couldn't talk to each other like we used to. Just like any other couple, contacting your lover after a breakup is something that should be done very carefully." "I never dated (Kim Sae-ron) when she was a minor," Kim Soo-hyun said.
"I dated her for about a year, about four years before the drama (Queen of Tears) aired," the actor continued. Queen of Tears premiered in March 2024. Kim Soo-hyun's claim is different from what Kim Sae-ron's family once revealed that the actor dated the actress from 2015 to 2021.
On March 10, 2025, Kim Sae-ron's family said through a YouTube broadcast by Garo Sero Research Institute that Kim Soo-hyun had dated the actress for six years. The relationship even happened when Kim Sae-ron was 15 years old or under the legal age. Gold Medalist, Kim Soo-hyun's agency, had previously denied the relationship claims.
However, the agency has now confirmed that the actor has dated Kim Sae-ron in the past. However, the agency confirmed that the relationship took place when Kim Sae-ron had entered the legal age or 19 years old. They were also claimed to have only dated for a short time, since 2019 and broke up in 2020.
