n.SSign's Laurence has apologized after receiving sharp criticism for his comments on the fan communication platform Weverse. The Taiwanese idol was accused of making insensitive comments about Indonesian idols and senior groups.

The controversy began on April 28, 2026, when Laurence posted a reply in Mandarin that took issue with the use of the labels "number one" or "top" in fan culture. In the post, she questioned the number of Indonesian K-pop idols when discussing the "Top Female Indonesian Idol" label.

He also mentioned the Singaporean duo By2 in a comparison between the members that netizens deemed inappropriate. In response to the wave of criticism, Laurence quickly released two apologies in English.

He acknowledged that his choice of words was careless and could have hurt many people's feelings, despite his initial intention of criticizing the unhealthy competitive culture among fans.

"I deeply regret that my words may have sounded disrespectful to many. What I really wanted to convey were my thoughts on a culture that labels, compares, and creates unnecessary competition," Laurence wrote in his official statement.

Not only the artist, but n.SSign's agency, nCH Entertainment, also released an official statement. The agency apologized for any inconvenience caused and promised to be more stringent in guiding its artists to prevent similar incidents from happening again.
