SEVENTEEN's Wonwoo surprised fans by releasing a solo single titled 'GOGAE' on his birthday on Thursday July 17, 2025. This serene ballad was written by Wonwoo himself and describes life as a “gogae” — a Korean term meaning small hill — that must be overcome even though it may be difficult at times.
With a soft touch of piano and string melodies, 'GOGAE' is designed to give listeners energy and hope in their daily lives, according to agency Pledis Entertainment. An animated video for the song was also uploaded to HYBE's official YouTube channel on the same day.
In a press release, Pledis Entertainment stated, "Wonwoo participated in writing the music and lyrics for this song to convey his sincerity to fans." Wonwoo, who was born on July 17, 1996, wanted to share a message that he cherishes every moment with CARAT, the name of SEVENTEEN's fan club, and hopes to step through new "gogae" together in his life journey.
"This song is a manifestation of Wonwoo's desire to cherish every memory with Carat and face new challenges with his fans," the agency added. Wonwoo debuted with SEVENTEEN in May 2015 and has been serving in the military as a social service worker since last April. He is scheduled to be discharged on January 2, 2027.
