Netflix's animated film 'KPop Demon Hunters' ranks fourth on the list of all-time highest-grossing films on the platform. This ranking includes both live-action and animated films combined.
Based on official Netflix data, KPop Demon Hunters has shifted 'The Adam Project' (1.576 million viewers) by recording a global viewership of 1.588 million. The film is now behind Leonardo DiCaprio's 'Don't Look Up' (1.714 million viewers) in third place, and the spotlight is on whether it can surpass that record.
Previously, in its sixth week of airing, 'KPop Demon Hunters' was crowned the Netflix original animated film with the highest number of viewers of all time. The film managed to enter the top 10 in all Netflix territories, while songs from its soundtrack, such as 'Golden', dominated the Billboard and Spotify charts.
The film's unique popularity trend also attracted attention. Unlike most OTT content, which peaks in its first or second week, 'KPop Demon Hunters' actually continued to grow its viewership over time thanks to word-of-mouth promotion.
This phenomenon made the film a hot topic on various social media platforms. In addition to the film's success, elements such as the soundtrack, characters, food, and locations featured in the story also garnered global attention.
One viral trend was a social media challenge modeled after the fictional girl group HUBTR/X's "kimbap eating" scene, where they ate kimbap in one bite. Additionally, various elements of Korean culture, such as cup ramen, a traditional Korean medicine clinic, and Namsan Tower, were also discussed.
The voice actors, including Korean actors Lee Byung Hun and Ahn Hyo Seop, as well as the TWICE members who contributed their voices to the OST, along with producer Teddy and the animation team, also received significant attention.
