The Seoul High Court rejected former NCT member Taeil's appeal against the gang rape of a Chinese woman on Friday (October 17, 2025). Taeil will face the same sentence as the original court's demand.

The man, born in 1994, was sentenced to 3.5 years in prison for the rape case that implicated him. Taeil's family felt the sentence was too harsh and filed an appeal. The Seoul High Court rejected the appeal. He was also ordered to complete 40 hours of sexual violence rehabilitation.

Taeil was also banned from working in institutions related to children, adolescents, and people with disabilities for five years. Taeil's lawyer had previously filed an appeal to reduce the former NCT member's sentence, claiming he voluntarily surrendered to detention. However, the court rejected the defense.

"The defendant claimed that he turned himself in, but he also testified that he was unaware of the lawsuit he was facing until a search of his home," the Seoul High Court said in a statement.

Meanwhile, in the first trial, Taeil was found guilty of sexually assaulting a Chinese woman who was unable to resist. The victim was said to have suffered psychological trauma as a result of the act. Taeil was reported to have committed harassment and rape along with two other people, namely Lee and Hong in June 2023.

They were first arrested and questioned by the police in August 2023. Following this case, SM Entertainment subsequently removed Taeil from NCT. Taeil and two other defendants were sentenced to 3.5 years in prison in July 2025 and appealed for a reduced sentence.
