Despite being one of the best-selling Korean dramas of the year, "Genie, Make a Wish" has also sparked heated debate among Korean drama fans. Kim Woo Bin's role as Jin is said to depict the story of a devil from Islam, thus being deemed disrespectful to the religion.
Meanwhile, from the side of Korean netizens, aka Knetz, the Korean drama Genie, Make a Wish also caused a division of opinion. Some liked the drama and called it a light watch, while others felt that the 'lightness' made the drama boring.
According to several netizens, the dialogue in Kim Eun Sook's "Genie, Make a Wish" is considered too childish and the humor is dry. The combination of these two factors makes this drama difficult to watch. Some also felt their expectations weren't met.
This is because Kim Eun Sook, the screenwriter for Genie, Make a Wish, had previously written scripts for several popular dramas with a large fan base, such as Goblin (2016) and Mr. Sunshine (2018).
