Red Velvet's Joy has been officially confirmed to star in the upcoming drama 'One-of-a-Kind Romance' (working title). On Tuesday September 30, 2025, SM Entertainment confirmed reports that Joy will play the lead role in the drama.
"It's true that Joy will be appearing in the drama 'One-of-a-Kind Romance,'" the agency said. This marks Joy's first acting role after a four-year hiatus. The drama 'One-of-a-Kind Romance' is adapted from the popular webtoon of the same name.
A romantic comedy, this drama follows the life of Gong Yu Il, an ordinary woman struggling to find work. Her simple life suddenly changes drastically after meeting top actor Tak Mu Yi and idol Ryu Min. Joy will play Gong Yu Il, a resilient character who always smiles despite facing hardships.
Despite dreaming of becoming a writer, reality forces him to find an office job while working part-time at a convenience store. Gong Yu Il, a huge fan of Ryu Min—a member of the boy band X-ONE—unexpectedly becomes involved with Tak Mu Yi through a chance encounter.
Earlier this month, it was reported that Kim Hyun Jin had been cast as the male lead, Tak Mu Yi. 'One-of-a-Kind Romance' is predicted to be one of the most anticipated dramas, combining the interesting chemistry between Joy and Kim Hyun Jin, as well as a light yet meaningful story.
