Nam Joo Hyuk is satisfying fans' longing after completing his military service. The actor starred in the Netflix Korean drama 'The East Palace', which showcased his transformation into a demon hunter with superpowers.
There's no need to wait any longer, eight episodes of the Korean drama The East Palace will air simultaneously on July 17, 2026. This drama, which combines royal and occult elements, presents a tense storyline, ready to stimulate the emotions and adrenaline of the audience.
No ordinary man, Nam Joo Hyuk's character can explore the supernatural world and slay demons with his sword. The East Palace officially marks his comeback after three years. His last drama, Vigilante, aired in 2023, during which he served as a military police officer.
The East Palace begins with the story of a King (played by Cho Seung Woo) who is lonely because of a curse in the palace that took his wife and child.
To protect the royal bloodline, the King recruits demon hunter Gu Cheon (played by Nam Joo Hyuk) and a court lady (played by Roh Yoon Seo) who can hear the voices of demons to break the magical curse on the palace.
This drama required Nam Joo Hyuk to film a lot underwater because the sea is his portal into the supernatural world. Attending The East Palace press conference on Wednesday (July 8, 2026), Nam Joo Hyuk recalled the challenges of filming underwater.
Sometimes filming took place in the summer, while other times he had to dive in the winter. "That scene was really challenging and took a lot of effort, but I think it turned out really well on screen.
I'm really grateful to the director for creating it with such amazing cinematography," explained Nam Joo Hyuk. Her co-star Cho Seung Woo joked back that she had 'water intoxication' due to her swollen skin during filming. "He dives underwater so much, you know, he's like water intoxicated.
I even used to write on his arm because his skin swells up so much in the water," Cho Seung Woo said. "But he's fine now," Cho Seung Woo added, not wanting to worry fans about Nam Joo Hyuk's health condition during the filming of the Korean drama The East Palace.
