Super Junior-M's Zhoumi has been appointed as CEO of a Chinese joint venture established by SM Entertainment and Tencent. On August 27, 2026, SM Entertainment announced the formation of STE, a joint venture with Tencent Music Entertainment Group (TME) in Beijing, China, and appointed Zhoumi as its CEO.
The joint venture was established based on a memorandum of understanding signed by SM and TME in May last year. One of the first major projects of the joint venture is the development of a new Chinese idol group, with preparations already underway.
The group aims to debut in the next two to three years. The company will handle the entire process from auditions to local management in China after the group's debut. STE will oversee the auditions and artist selection for this project and will be in charge of the group's local management in China after its debut.
In addition to the new group, STE will also oversee SM artists' local activities in the Chinese market. Specifically, STE will handle the management in China for NCT DREAM member Renjun and WayV members YangYang and Xiaojun, including local promotions and support for their entertainment activities.
According to SM, Zhoumi's appointment as CEO combines his experience as an artist and entertainment industry executive. The Chinese singer has spent nearly two decades working in the K-pop industry as a member of Super Junior-M and as a solo artist.
He also served as a director at SM Entertainment's subsidiary in China, which gave him experience in entertainment management and the local market. Zhoumi said in a press statement, “I am pleased to be able to act as a representative of this joint venture, which was formed based on the strong trust and strategic vision of SM and TME.
"By combining SM's strengths in intellectual property and content production with the characteristics of the Chinese market, I will deliver differentiated content and create meaningful results as a bridge between the two companies," he said.
Zhoumi was born on April 19, 1986, and debuted as a member of Super Junior's subgroup for the Chinese market, Super Junior-M. Super Junior-M consists of Sungmin, Eunhyuk, Siwon, Donghae, Ryeowook, Kyuhyun, and Zhoumi. However, the group previously also included Hangeng and Henry before they both decided to leave.
