SM officially announced its new company on Thursday (August 27, 2026). STE's current headquarters are located in Beijing, China, and follow up to the signing of a memorandum of understanding (MoU) between the two companies in May 2025.

"I am delighted to serve as a representative of this joint venture, which was formed on the basis of the strong trust and strategic vision of SM and TME," Zhoumi said in an official statement.

"By combining SM's strengths in intellectual property (IP) and content production with the characteristics of the Chinese market, I will deliver unique content and create meaningful results as a bridge between the two companies," he continued.

Through this new company, SM and Tencent will be ready to produce a Chinese idol group. The group is planned to debut in the next two to three years. STE will handle all member auditions, training, and debut. They will also serve as the group's local agency in the Chinese music scene.

Beyond the new group project, STE will also be a home for SM artists from China. In a statement, SM explained that NCT DREAM's Renjun, WayV's YangYang, and Xiaojun will be included in STE's artist roster; and will handle the three artists' activities there.
