BTS drew attention after their performance videos for "Butter" and "Dynamite" were unable to be found on the official Grammy website. This happened after the group announced they would not be submitting music for this year's awards.
As of July 30, 2026, both videos are no longer available on the Grammy website, although they can still be accessed through BTS's official YouTube channel, BANGTANTV. The Pop Core account also shared an image showing an error message on the Grammy page featuring BTS's group photo.
The message read, "The Recording Academy appears to have removed BTS's Grammy performances of 'Butter' and 'Dynamite' from its website." This sparked speculation among fans as the announcement was made just one day earlier.
BTS announced their decision via their official social media accounts, stating, “We have decided not to submit our music to the Grammys this year. We hope that music can be heard and loved for who it is, without being divided by region or language.”
Some industry observers interpreted this decision as a response to the Grammy Awards’ creation of a new category for “Best Asian Pop Music Performance,” which includes music from countries like South Korea, China, and Japan.
Although the category was introduced to celebrate the growth and diversity of Asian pop music, critics argued that conflating various music industries under the same regional label could reflect a Western-centric view.
Recording Academy CEO Harvey Mason Jr. later released an official statement regarding BTS's decision, stating, "We respect BTS's decision not to participate in the Grammy process.
The Asian Pop Music Performance category was created to celebrate the diversity and growth of Asian pop music. It was never intended to segregate or discriminate."
Claims that the BTS performance video was removed in response to the group's decision have not been officially confirmed. The Recording Academy has also not provided a public explanation as to why the video is currently unavailable on its website.
