The OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9R sale in India starts today for Amazon Prime and OnePlus Red Cable Club members, starting at 12pm. While the OnePlus 9 is an upper mid-range phone, the OnePlus 9R is the most affordable in the company’s latest batch of phones.

The OnePlus 9 series was launched in India earlier in March this year. While the OnePlus 9 Pro and OnePlus 9 come with Hasselblad-branded cameras, the OnePlus 9R misses out on it and as a result, costs relatively less.

The OnePlus 9 is the more powerful smartphone of the two – it is powered by the flagship Qualcomm Snapdragon 888 chipset. On the other hand, the OnePlus 9R has the Snapdragon 870 chipset at its heart.

Both the smartphones feature the same 6.55-inch Full HD+ Fluid AMOLED display with 120Hz refresh rate, HDR10+ support and Corning Gorilla Glass protection. Both also have the same 8GB or 12GB of LPDDR5 memory, which is paired with up to 256GB of UFS 3.1 storage.

The primary difference is in the camera system. The OnePlus 9 comes with Hasselblad branding, with a 48MP primary camera with Sony IMX 689 sensor, a 50MP ultrawide angle snapper and a 2MP monochrome camera. It has a 16MP selfie camera. Surprisingly, the OnePlus 9 misses out on optical image stabilisation (OIS).

The OnePlus 9R smartphone has a 48MP primary camera with the slightly older Sony IMX 586 sensor with OIS, a 16MP ultrawide angle camera and a 2MP monochrome camera. It has a 16MP selfie camera.

Other features of the OnePlus 9 and OnePlus 9R include 5G, dual 4G VoLTE, dual-band Wi-Fi 6, Bluetooth 5.1 and NFC. They’re both powered by a 4,500mAh battery and support 65W fast charging.

The OnePlus 9 price in India starts at ₹49,999 for the 8GB + 128GB version and ₹54,999 for the 12GB + 256GB version. It comes in Winter Mist, Arctic Sky and Astral Black colour options.

The OnePlus 9R, on the other hand, starts at a price of ₹39,999 for the 8GB + 128GB version, while the 12GB + 256GB version costs ₹43,999. It comes in Carbon Black and Lake Blue colour options.

Buyers can get a discount of ₹3,000 on the OnePlus 9, and ₹2,000 on the OnePlus 9R when the purchase is made using SBI credit cards and EMI transactions.
