South Korean actor, Song Kang Ho recently attended the 75th Cannes Film Festival for the film Broker. He also made history through his victory in the event. Song Kang Ho is known to win the Best Actor category through the film Broker.
He set a record as the first Korean actor to win an acting category at the Cannes Film Festival. Previously, Jeon Do Yeon became the first Korean actress to win an acting category in 2007. She took home the Best Actress trophy at the Cannes Film Festival for her acting in Secret Sunshine, which also starred Song Kang Ho.
Not only that, Song Kang Ho previously also participated in the film Parasite, which was the first Korean film to win the Palme d'Or in 2019. Last year Song Kang Ho also became the first Korean actor to be a judge at the 74th Cannes Film Festival. On the other hand, director Park Chan Wook took home the Best Director trophy through the film Decision to Leave.
He became the second Korean director to win an award at the Cannes Film Festival. Although this is the first time that Park Chan Wook has won the Best Director category, the two films he directed have already won trophies at the Cannes Film Festival.
His iconic film, Oldboy, won the Grand Prix in 2003 while Thirst won the Jury Prize in 2009. The first director to win the Best Director category at the Cannes Film Festival was Im Kwon Taek in 2002.
