On February 9, Super Junior's Kim Heechul guested on BJ Choi on AfreecaTV while drinking alcohol. During the broadcast, the idol appeared to be very drunk and swore a lot and discussed controversial matters which drew criticism from netizens. One of the segments that brought Heechul a lot of criticism was when he defended his former bandmate, Kangin, who was caught in a drunk driving case and had a scandal in the past.

In addition, he was also criticized for dragging the name of actor and member of the boy group ASTRO, Cha Eun Woo, when discussing the topic of school bullying. During the broadcast, she said that she is very close to the actor. Then he said, "I understand why he's popular, of course. He has a (perfect) image on tv, but if he hears about school bullying, he'll be like, 'Hyungnim, bring that person here and (he) will slap him.".

He's a real gentleman who really likes working out." Although Heechul's statement seemed to praise Cha Eun Woo as a real man, some netizens caught that Heechul was describing Cha Eun Woo as a cruel and aggressive person, in which, it was thought that this could damage the image of the idol whose real name is Lee Dong Min.

In response to the controversy he created, Soompi reported that Heechul took to Instagram on February 13 to post an apology regarding his statement, "I apologize for excessively using profanity and vulgar expressions and for portraying double standards." The idol added that he deeply regretted his actions, saying, "This (mistake) will be the last controversy that occurs, and I will try my best not to get involved in any controversies in the future."

Despite apologizing wholeheartedly, at the end of his Instagram caption, Heechul confessed that however he did not feel that it was wrong to curse the school bully. In particular, the Super Junior member said, "No matter how much I think about it, I don't think it's wrong to condemn the perpetrators of violence at schools and certain websites."
