Batman first appeared in Detective Comics #27 in 1939, created by Bob Kane with major contributions from Bill Finger. Since then, Batman, or known as The Dark Knight, has become a symbol of fortitude, courage, and justice in the eyes of his fans.
What sets Batman apart from other superheroes is that he does not have superpowers; his powers come from his intelligence, perseverance, and use of advanced technology. Batman has also become a global icon through various entertainment mediums, including comics, television series, cartoons, and feature films.
From Adam West in the 1966 television series to Robert Pattinson in The Batman (2022), Batman has always managed to adapt to his time, reinvented by the incredible writers and artists behind the scenes. Batman's success in the film world began in 1989 with Tim Burton's film starring Michael Keaton as Bruce Wayne.
A new era for Batman emerged in 2005 with Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight trilogy, which sparked a wave of modern superhero films. The trilogy is considered one of the best cinematic works of the early 21st century. Finally, Matt Reeves' The Batman in 2022 once again proved Batman's popularity worldwide.
In the animated world, Batman: The Animated Series, created by Bruce Timm and Paul Dini in 1992, received critical acclaim, won an Emmy Award, and introduced the iconic voice actor Kevin Conroy as Batman. Batman's ongoing story in DC Comics has inspired countless artists and writers, including big names like Frank Miller, Neal Adams, and Jim Lee. Batman is no longer just a fictional character, but an enduring superhero.
