South Korean girl group Fifty Fifty recently catapulted into popularity through their song entitled ' Cupid '. The song with the addictive melody has become very viral on social media. The lyrics are no less interesting so that people are increasingly made to like the work.
Recently, girl group Fifty Fifty's viral song has also taken the world by storm with high ranking on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and sensational popularity on SNS. However, the very viral song was reportedly involved in a plagiarism controversy. According to news from KBIZoom, the song was accused of plagiarism by Turkish singer Evrencan Gündüz.
In particular, Evrencan Gündüz uploaded reels on Instagram, in which he plays 'Cupid' alongside his song, 'Sen Akmzdan', showing the strong similarities of the two songs. “Fifty Fifty released a great song. Let's listen together :) But it seems familiar from somewhere…” So the musician wrote in his Instagram reels.
In particular, the melodic part in 'Cupid' does sound almost exactly the same as the opening whistle part of 'Sen Akmzdan'. In his Instagram reels, Evrencan Gündüz also tagged agency Fifty Fifty, apparently demanding an official response to his plagiarism accusations. Meanwhile, an expert consulted by Korean outlet Wikitree said, "If you look closely, they are similar, but this level seems insufficient to be considered (as plagiarism)."
Regarding this, an official from the agency Fifty Fifty also said in a phone call with Wikitree, "We contacted the author of Cupid to confirm." Cupid's composers are all from overseas, so due to time differences and other issues, the agency's official position will be announced at a later date.
Girl group Fifty Fifty itself is a new Korean idol group that is not even one year old but has already won various big achievements thanks to the song titled 'Cupid'. Fifty Fifty was even called to beat BLACKPINK's achievements in an achievement. Regarding this plagiarism controversy, will it end up affecting the success of the young girl group?
