The live action version of the Disney film 'The Little Mermaid' is currently a hot topic of conversation around the world, and South Korea is no exception. Recently, Disney Korea hooked up NewJeans' Danielle as the voice actor for Ariel in the live action Korean dubbing version of 'The Little Mermaid', as well as singing the song 'Part of Your World' as the film's OST.

After that, Disney Korea carried out film promotions in various national cinemas and television stations. However, Korean netizens regretted Disney Korea's actions for promoting NewJeans' Danielle too hard instead of Ariel's original character, Halle Bailey. Danielle's face appears on many posters and billboards.

Many people are worried that children will think that Danielle is the "real" Ariel because the target audience for the film is children. Netizens also emphasized that Halle Bailey's figure is often seen in silhouette. Also, on Disney Korea's YouTube channel, the photo used as the thumbnail is of Danielle, not Halle Bailey.

According to netizens, Disney Korea seems to be "hiding" Ariel's original character. Whereas on the Walt Disney Studios channel everything features a photo of Halle Bailey. " Shouldn't they show the face of the main character, not the voice actor? This is not an animated film. " said one netizen. " The trailer is also the same.

There is not a single appearance from Halle Bailey, " said another netizen. " If it's like this, the kids will mistake Danielle for the main character and go to the cinema because they want to see her, " said another netizen. " They talked about the 'black little mermaid' but didn't show their face in the trailer. What's wrong with their strategy? " commented one netizen.

Various reactions emerged. Some argue that Disney Korea has a promotional strategy by arousing curiosity by hiding the protagonist in the trailer to shock the audience. There were also those who argued that it was okay to feature Danielle in commercials and promotions since she was the one singing the OST. Meanwhile, the film 'The Little Mermaid' will be released in Korea on May 24, 2023.
