Ahead of the live action release of The Little Mermaid this month, Disney Korea has a surprise for NewJeans fans. One of its members, Danielle, was lined up to become the voice actor for the Korean dub version of Ariel. Not only will she voice the dialogues, Danielle will also sing all the songs performed by Halle Bailey.
Disney Korea released Danielle's teaser video for The Little Mermaid. In the short duration video, fans can listen to footage of Danielle singing the Korean version of the song Part of Your World. Previously, leaks from this video had circulated on social media and received various reactions.
"Danielle will play Ariel and show a different side of herself by voicing and singing the original soundtrack of the film The Little Mermaid," said the Walt Disney Company Korea in its official statement. "We can look forward to Danielle, who is the same age as Ariel in the film and has a similar bubbly image, to bring out Ariel's playful and curious teenage charms," they continued.
Several photos of Danielle were also released by Disney Korea. Featuring the Ditto singer wearing a sparkling outfit the same color as the live action version of the mermaid's fins. Her hair looks loose with a distinctive coral-colored earrings. Danielle displays maximum appreciation in the Part of Your World video clip.
There is a different nuance between her singing style at NewJeans and when she performed the soundtrack of The Little Mermaid. South Korean moviegoers will be able to hear Part of Your World and Danielle's voice in The Little Mermaid in cinemas starting May 24, 2023. Meanwhile, the release date in Indonesia has not been confirmed and it still says 'May 2023' on Disney Indonesia's Instagram.
