SM Entertainment has announced Lucas' departure from NCT and WayV. This was conveyed through a written statement uploaded to the agency's official social media. "This is SM Entertainment. We have an announcement to share with you regarding Lucas' future plans," wrote SM Entertainment in a statement, on Wednesday May 10, 2023.
After careful discussions between Lucas and the agency, it was decided that the Hong Kong-born idol would be leaving NCT and WayV to focus on solo activities. "We ask for your understanding and support because this is a decision taken following long consideration between the members and all the fans who have supported them," the agency said.
SM Entertainment further stated that Lucas plans to show his appearance through various individual activities from now on. "Once again, we really appreciate the love and support that the fans have given, and ask that you continue to support and show interest in the future. Thank you," concluded the agency in their statement.
Lucas officially debuted as a member of NCT in 2018. His career was quite classy by being appointed as a member of WayV and SuperM, a group formed by SM Entertainment specifically for the American music market. But in August 2021, Lucas stumbled on a scandal related to an affair with his ex-girlfriend.
The 24-year-old man was accused of asking his girlfriend for money and gaslighting three suspected victims. Lucas has apologized in a handwritten letter uploaded to Instagram. SM Entertainment also announced that Lucas was halting his activities to reflect on his actions.
