SHINee fans or often called Shawol will remember that the youngest member of SHINee, Taemin, is having his 30th birthday on Tuesday July 18, 2023. This SHINee singer and main dancer was born in Seoul in 1993.
Long known to the world public because he successfully debuted at the age of 14, Taemin has interesting facts that you can't miss. Quoted from Soompi, here are four of them.
1. Passed the Saturday Audition and became SHINee's main dancer at the age of 14
Taemin started his career in the South Korean entertainment industry through the Saturday Audition event. The audition is an open audition held by SM Entertainment every Saturday. During the two decades running, only eight people have made it to the finals of the auditions which are known to have a high level of difficulty.
Among them are Super Junior's Heechul, Girls' Generation's YoonA, SHINee's Taemin, Red Velvet's Seulgi, NCT's Haechan, Red Velvet's Yeri, NCT's Jungwoo, and aespa's Giselle. Taemin himself auditioned for SM in 2005.
With his dancing skills, Taemin managed to qualify and become an SM Entertainment trainee for three years. Right on May 25, 2008, he was chosen to debut in the SHINee boy group with the main dancer position even though at that time he was still 14 years old.
2. Joined the SuperM group with EXO and NCT members
In 2019, SM Entertainment debuted SuperM as a new boy group consisting of seven boys who also come from the agency's four music groups. Taemin is the only SHINee member who successfully debuted into SuperM with EXO's Baekhyun and Kai, NCT's Taeyong and Mark, and WayV's Ten and Lucas. Often dubbed "The Avengers of K-pop", SuperM debuted on October 4, 2019 with a focus on marketing music in the United States.
3. Has a lot of solo albums
Taemin made his first solo debut in 2014 with the release of the mini album ACE. After two years, he released the mini album Sayonara Hitori which made him officially debut as a solo artist in Japan. It didn't stop there, in October 2017, Taemin made a solo comeback with his 2nd full album titled MOVE.
Through this album, Taemin achieved the pinnacle of success with the recognition of the "Move Disease" phenomenon on social media. Then in May 2021, right before leaving for his military service, Taemin released another single and mini album titled "Advice".
4. Had experienced depression during the army
On Friday, January 14, 2022, SM Entertainment announced Taemin's transfer of duties from the military force to public service due to suspicions that the musician was experiencing symptoms of depression and anxiety.
On January 14 2022, Taemin had received treatment and therapy for these symptoms, but his condition worsened so that the military decided to transfer Taemin as a public service worker to complete his military service period.
